Not much can compare to the magic of seeing these two national parks covered in snow, except for maybe a horse drawn sleigh ride through this winter wonderland!
Lucky for you there are several places to celebrate this mountain country tradition; each offering a unique experience all their own.
Mountain River Ranch: If you’re looking for the whole western experience, then look no further, this ranch has it all. Guests are greeted with cider or hot chocolate before boarding the sleigh. You’ll sing along to holiday songs during the ride and then enjoy a live Old West Holiday Show after, and served a prime rib dinner to boot! The atmosphere here is as festive as it comes! Reservations fill up quick so book in advance. Bookings are available on their website.
La Belle Lake: Who doesn’t enjoy ice, lights, and snow? This new lodge offers its guests the chance to walk through ice passages, slide down ice slides and sit on an ice throne, all before your sleigh ride begins! Complimentary hot chocolate. Served during the ride will help keep you warm! Reservations also needed and can be booked directly on their website.
Linn Canyon Ranch: Known for it’s western hospitality, this cozy little lodge is nestled right at the foothills of the Teton Mountain Range. Guests are also greeted with their choice of hot chocolate or cider before boarding their sleigh. You’ll get to visit the local llamas and watch the horse herds get fed their dinner, all underneath the comforts of a warm blanket. Then it’s back to the lodge for socializing, appetizers, and dinner. Reservations also needed and can be requested on their website.
The Road Apple Trolley: While this isn’t a sleigh ride, the third generation, family owned horse trolley outfitter offers private charters in an around the Idaho Falls area for you and your guests. They will be offering free rides in the downtown area on Dec. 22nd, but you can book them all year long by calling (208) 403-8669.
National Elk Refuge: This horse drawn sleigh ride puts you right in the middle of thousands of elk. At the National Elk Refuge, visitors are treated to guided sleigh rides that explain in depth about the elk migration and answer all of your questions about these elk herds. It’s also not uncommon for visitors to see a plethora of other wildlife, including eagles, coyotes, foxes, bison, wolves, or trumpeter swans. Sleigh rides daily from 10-4pm, with blankets provided.
